Weekend DIY with Mark Rayner - Project 65

Difficulty level: Moderate

You will need: 20mm x 180mm timber cut to the following sizes, 180mm x 180mm (x2), 140mm x 180mm (x2), 140mm x 140mm, 45mm jolt head nails, clean cloth, hammer, paintbrush, pencil, Resene Lustacryl tinted to Resene Adrenalin, Resene Quick Dry, sandpaper, saw, tape measure.

To get the look: Mark stained the shelf with Resene Colorwood tinted to Resene Satin Orange and finished it with Resene Aquaclear.

Other ideas: For a pale wood grain effect, finish the pot plant holder with Resene Colorwood Whitewash.

How to paint a plant pot

Step one
Measure and mark the 20mm x 180mm timber to the sizes listed above.

Step two
Use the back of the saw to rule cutting lines.

Step three
Cut the pieces of wood to size using each cutting line as a guide.

Step four
Sand any rough edges and wipe off any sanding residue with a clean cloth.

Step five
Assemble the pieces of timber to form a box, as shown, and fix together with 45mm nails.

Step six
Apply one coat of Resene Quick Dry to the inside and outside of the pot plant holder and allow to dry.

Step seven
Apply one coat of Resene Lustacryl tinted to Resene Adrenalin to the inside and outside of the pot plant holder and allow to dry.

Step eight
Apply a second coat of Resene Lustacryl tinted to Resene Adrenalin to the inside and outside of the pot plant holder and allow to dry.
