Specified versus Perceived colour
Resene has teamed up again with leading Australian expert Dr Zena O'Connor to discuss Specified versus Perceived colour.
In the built environment, colour scheme specification for both interior spaces and exterior building façades can sometimes be problematic. Not simply in terms of aesthetics or functionality, but due to the range of factors that can directly impact or influence perception of specified colour, creating a situation where perceived colour differs from specified colour. Aside from the complexity of both colour and human perception of colour, there are a number of factors that impact perception of colour in respect to interior spaces and exterior façades.
These factors, which impact colour scheme development and need to be considered during the development process, include the influence of contextual colour, simultaneous contrast effect, as well as variations in ambient lighting. This discussion will refer to colour specification strategies that can be employed to manage and/or mitigate the factors that impact specified colour and, to a certain extent, also address client-related issues. These strategies will be examined with reference to case studies that focus on recent projects.

Demystifying colour: Making sense of the different colour systems
Resene has teamed up with leading colour expert Dr Zena O’Connor to delve deeper into the different colour systems we work with within our Industry.
As a specifier, designer or architect, you may have experienced some confusion about different colour systems including RGB, CMYK, PMS and Hex codes.
This webinar takes you from the colour systems that featured in your colour training, though to colour systems that may be familiar in the workplace, and on to colour systems that underpin proprietary products including Resene paints. Key colour systems are demystified in this webinar, which features illustrations that clearly define each colour system common in design and the built environment.
About Zena: An independent research consultant, Dr Zena O’Connor holds a PhD from the University of Sydney, a Master’s Degree in Design (University of Technology, Sydney) and a Bachelor’s Degree (University of Technology, Sydney). Zena has worked with a wide range of organisations in the commercial, government and academic sectors and delivers evidence-based insight and research reports and seminars relating to colour in applied design and the built environment, colour psychology, colour in logo design and branding, visual literacy and colour mapping studies. A trained designer, Zena is frequently asked to comment on colour-related topics, colour symbolism and colour psychology.
