Choosing a colour for your interior

From habitat plus - wood stains

The final colour will depend on the stain colour chosen, the type of wood being stained, and the number of coats applied.

A stained minimalist home interior

To achieve the minimalist look without the starkness of a pure white, try Resene Colorwood Whitewash paired with natural timber furniture. Flooring in Resene Soapstone.

Dark and hardwoods absorb less stain, so several coats may need to be applied, whereas light-coloured timber or plywood will make the same stain look stronger. Use a small amount of Resene Colorwood to try the colour out before starting on your project. Resene Woodsman exterior colours (see Resene exterior woodcare range) can also be tinted into Resene Colorwood if you want to bring your exterior wood stain colours into your interior. See the Resene Colorwood colour range at Resene interior Colorwood natural wood stain.

With so many browns and grey Resene Colorwood stains to choose from, why limit yourself to just one? Plywood wall stained in Resene Limed Ash, Resene Light Greywash, Resene Smokey Ash, Resene Tiri and Resene Bleached Riverstone. The floorboards are in Resene Colorwood Light Greywash.

A textured strand board wall with a warm brown wood stain

SIPs specialist Tonia Williams used Resene Colorwood Jarrah on top of the textured oriented strand board (OSB) wall before overcoating with Resene Aquaclear tinted with Resene Colorwood Enhance Jarrah.

top tip  Stain colours can be intermixed or diluted. Resene Colorwood Reducing Base may be used to soften or stretch a full strength colour. If the selected colour of Resene Colorwood is too intense, reduce with Resene Colorwood Reducing Base. Resene Colorwood Reducing Base is also perfect on dark timbers to enhance the grain and appearance of the timber, without making the timber appear even darker.
