How to make plant pots with Resene Sandtex:

Sandtex plant pots - Step 1 Step 1
Find the pots you want to transform. Fleur chose two different plant pots – one plain black indoor pot and one blue outdoor pot.

Sandtex plant pots - Step 2 Step 2
Start by sanding both pots with a coarse grit sandpaper and then apply one coat of Resene Waterborne Smooth Surface Sealer.

Sandtex plant pots - Step 3 Step 3
Once this is dry, apply two layers of Resene Sandtex. Fleur applied a thick messy second layer to the outdoor pot and two smooth layers to the indoor pot. Make sure to allow the first layer to dry before applying the second layer. Leave the pots to dry overnight.

Sandtex plant pots - Step 4 Step 4
Paint the outdoor pot in Resene Double Pavlova and allow to dry. Then use a small sponge to rub on some Resene Drought in random places. For the indoor pot, paint the bottom third in Resene Fire and then use an old toothbrush to flick on some Resene All Black.

Sandtex plant pots - Step 5 Step 5
For the final painting stage, use the sponge to rub some Resene Rebel on to the outdoor pot, paying attention to highlight the rim and ridges on the pot. With the indoor pot, paint the remaining area with Resene Blue Teal.

Sandtex plant pots - Step 6 Step 6
Finish the pot, if desired, with Resene Clearcoat UVS to give a shiny, glazed look. This will also help to protect bright colours in the sunlight.

Top tip:  If you are painting multiple pots and plan to use one light colour, get Resene Sandtex to your chosen colour. This will save you applying topcoats of paint. If you want to use a range of colours like Fleur, then Resene Sandtex is best as a basecoat to add texture then you can add your colours with Resene testpots, without having to buy lots of large pots of paint.
