How to make wallpaper floral wall medallions

Habitat bright ideas with Fleur Thorpe – DIY projects

Dress up a full and boring wall space with these wallpaper medallions. Choose design and colourways to suit your space.

You will need

Instructions

Step 1:  Start by getting all the wallpaper samples that you want to use together. Cut them into strips. Most of Fleur’s medallions are made from strips that are 15cm wide by 1m long.

Step 2:  Fold each strip back and forth to form a zigzag/concertina.

Step 3:  Join both ends together with glue and crimp in the middle so that it sits flat. You can use a clothes peg to hold things together while the glue dries.

Step 4:  Glue a piece of paper to the back to stop the middle from popping up.

Step 5:  Cut out some Resene wallpaper circles in contrasting colours and glue these to the front. Experiment with different sizes, combinations and colours.

Step 6:  If you make a medallion that is too short and the ends won’t meet, you can either make it longer by adding in some more wallpaper to the length, or you can cut the outer edge with scissors and this will help it stretch around (and it makes it look pretty too!).

Step 7:  Attach your medallions to the wall with Blu-Tack.

Top tip:  If you can’t find wallpaper in a colour to suit, use Resene Anaglypta then paint it in your favourite Resene testpot colours or any Resene paint you have leftover from your decorating projects.
