Partly stained wooden floor

Interior: Sometimes when an old wooden floor has been partly stained you need a bit of Resene know how to fix the situation.

How to fix a partly stained wooden floor

Difficulty level:  Challenging

You will need

To get the look:  Mark painted the background wall with Resene SpaceCote Flat tinted to Resene Quarter Thorndon Cream.

Other ideas:  If matching a previously stained black floor, simply use Resene Colorwood tinted to Resene Pitch Black.

How to fix a partly stained wooden floor

Fix a partly stained floor - Step 1 Step one
Carefully remove any staples from the old floor.


Fix a partly stained floor - Step 2 Step two
Lightly sand the entire floor, both the area of bare wood and the previously stained part.

Wipe off any sanding residue with a clean damp cloth and allow to dry.

Carefully stir the Resene Colorwood tinted to Resene Deep Oak.

Carefully stir the Resene Colorwood tinted to Resene Mahogany.


Fix a partly stained floor - Step 6 Step six
Wearing rubber gloves, apply both Resene Colorwood colours to the area of bare wood using a clean cloth, mixing them directly on the wood as you go and working in the direction of the grain. Once you get a good colour match to the existing stain, leave for a few minutes and then wipe off any excess with a clean cloth. Leave to dry.

Carefully stir the Resene Qristal ClearFloor 1K.


Fix a partly stained floor - Step 8 Step eight
Apply three or four coats of Resene Qristal ClearFloor 1K to the entire floor area allowing a minimum of two hours for each coat to dry.
