Decorating articles and inspiration from TrendsIdeas
Colour delineates and defines the spaces in this simple, barn-like home, drawing attention to key architectural elements.
Good design isn't about big interiors or big budgets – it's about good ideas and innovative solutions, as this project shows.
Architectural specifier Henri Sayes says the owners of the 115m2 home wanted an interior that was playful, yet seriously designed, and that used a small budget as a springboard, not an excuse.
"Colour was essential to help define the separate spaces and to amplify and draw attention to the architecture."
Sayes worked on the colour selection with Nicole Stock and Amelia Holmes, choosing Resene shades with a muted, muddy feel that work well together.
The low back wall in the living room is painted in Resene Friar Grey, which throws the white trusses – Resene Black White – into relief. This colour also articulates a series of nooks in various rooms.
Resene Raptor, a grey-green shade, features in the study, creating a refined backdrop to the owners' library.
To accentuate the raked ceiling in the master bedroom, this surface is painted in Resene Bonanza, a dusty pink that adds fun and whimsy, while keeping the palette subdued and sophisticated.
