The Campbell’s home lacked energy and interest.
It was very much beige on beige in beige - well except the bright pink kitchen!! Eeek! So they started making plans to repaint it doing all the work themselves which they found very satisfying.
They removed the glass doors from the corner cupboard and painted it Resene Black, then replaced the limo with granite tiles. They replaced the pink Formica® bench top and extended it out to make a kitchen bench and to cascade down the side for a waterfall effect. It was then stained about 10 times to get that warmth of colour.
Megan originally wanted the pressed tin as the back splash behind the gas hob but that didn't meet the building code for Wellington - but she loved it so much she decided to put under the bench.
They used Resene Black White on the kitchen cupboards.
Megan tied in the almost art nouveau feel of the pressed tin with the Scandinavian inspired roman blind fabric from Bolt of Cloth. It's a wee bit edgy but the grey and pink tones ties in beautifully with the rest of the house.
They then added open wooden shelves for easy access storage in the corner.
In the spare room they used Resene Midnight Express on the feature wall to give the room some depth. The black linen duvet cover is from Citta while the pillow cases and pink velvet cushion are from Tea Pea. The roller blinds are from Freedom. Megan painted the bottom half of the wicker lampshade in Resene Midnight Express to tie everything together.
The master bedroom also has a feature wall, in Resene Swamp. The feature wall is Resene Swamp. It makes an incredible statement and works perfectly with the proportions of the room. The room now feels inviting and warm – a gorgeous place to light candles and curl up at the end of the day.
Megan’s partner, a sparky, put in the stunning wall lights. Megan bought standard bedside lamps for $39 each and he rewired into the walls and fitted statement bulbs.
To tie in the ensuite and walk through wardrobe Megan painted the lower part of the wall Resene Swamp and added a picture rail for interest.
The drapes were made by Lewis's. They are tie-dyed linen which has been backed with grey thermal lining to give depth. It look Megan quite some time to convince the salesperson that the lining needed to dominate - she thought Megan was nutty - but it ties in perfectly with the Cavalier Bremworth charcoal carpet.
Thanks to the Campbell family.
