Mural theme:
Connected – let them be young.
Background to mural creation:
Alby painted this mural with a group of students (aged 5-13 years) during Parawai School’s elective programme. The group was studying and recreating Pasifika Art using a range of different methods and materials. During the sessions Alby shared artwork with them and explained the meaning of the different symbols. A teacher then asked if Alby would create a mural. Alby chose to paint it in black and white as children are still innocent and for them life is black and white, very clear cut and simple. Hopefully they are not yet exposed to the ‘real world’ that we know as adults, which is far more confusing with varying shades.
