Mark Rayner shows how to build a handy storage bench.
You will need: 40mm galvanised flathead nails, two 150mm stainless steel strap hinges, drill with 10mm drill bit, saw, hammer, screwdriver paintbrush, sandpaper, pencil, set square, tape measure and exterior PVA glue. Before beginning, measure and cut plywood and timber to the listed dimensions and sand any rough edges. Assemble the unit with exterior PVA glue and galvanised nails.
Step 1
Form the front of the base by attaching 2 of D to 16 of B, ensuring both cross pieces are centrally positioned.
Step 2
Form one side panel by attaching 2 of E to 6 of B and 1 of C, as shown, ensuring each cross piece is centrally positioned. Repeat to form the second side.
Step 5
For the seat lid, attach the 2 of J and 1 of H to 1 of G. Place lid in position. Meas ure and cut a 50mm x 10mm section from each upper corner of the base front to fit the lid. Leave overnight for glue to dry.
