• Old wooden drawer with some holes drilled in the bottom for drainage
• Paintbrushes
• Resene Lumbersider tinted to Resene Bilbao
• Resene Quick Dry
• Resene testpots of Resene Alabaster, Resene Black, Resene Cabaret, Resene California, Resene Malibu and Resene Milano Red

Top tip:  When it comes to planting, it’s best to use a good-quality potting mix (you’ll need an adult to help with this). You can grow a wide range of small plants in your new planter, from yummy edibles such as strawberries or salad vegetables, to flowers and even small succulents.

How to build a kids’ planter box:

Step 1  Apply one coat of Resene Quick Dry to the inside and outside of the wooden drawer and allow to dry.

Step 2  Apply two coats of Resene Lumbersider tinted to Resene Bilbao to the inside and outside of the wooden drawer. Allow at least two hours for each coat of paint to dry.

Step 3  Paint some worms on the front of the planter box with Resene Cabaret and allow the paint to dry.

Step 4  Paint two ladybird shapes on the front of the planter box with Resene Milano Red and allow the paint to dry.

Step 5  Paint some flowers on the front of the planter box with Resene Malibu and allow the paint to dry.

Step 6  Paint some more flowers on the front of the planter box with Resene California and allow the paint to dry.

Step 7  Paint centres in each of the flower shapes with Resene Alabaster and allow the paint to dry.

Step 8  Paint faces on the worms and then paint heads and spots on the ladybirds using Resene Black.

Step 9  Allow the paint to dry before planting into your new planter box.
