“Picture this… grey swirling skies, salty air, blustering winds and tumultuous waves crashing and roaring onto the jaded rocks. The atmosphere is energetic and loud, almost angry. There is calm within the wild, a sort of serene brutality.
In my search for inspiration I contemplated different definitions of what this colour and phrase meant. I found that yellow was the most luminous colour of the spectrum and therefore the most visible to the human eye. It inspires happiness, optimism and creativity. Wild means to be untamed, fierce, and deviant and to have a lack of restraint. It is thought of as vivid and loud.
I found the meaning of the colour name the name together overlapped at some points and provided a juxtaposition at others. I was quite inspired by this fact. They both mean loud, vivid and eye catching, however yellow tends to inspire optimism whereas wild can have a harsher feel to it.
Learning this I was inspired most by nature. Yellow in nature reminds us of daffodils, sunflowers, lemons, bees and sunshine. It is often the only bright colour in a natural landscape, drawing your attention and inspiring happiness and optimism. Wild in nature reminds us of untamed animals, overgrown backyards and stormy oceans. These things don’t just catch your attention, they command it. The untamed, rugged energy draws you in, making it hard to look away. I found I was most inspired by wild oceans. The image of a powerful wave crashing over the rocks encapsulates wild for me.
The untamed out of control nature of a wave creates interesting organic shapes that could be easily translated into fashion. The harsh lines within the dress are inspired by the jagged rock formations of the beaches.”
