Sam Mathers, SM CreativeSam's works are a visual diary of his travel around the world - they way he sees and experiences places. They document the iconic and instantly recognisable as well as the odd and interesting. He's fascinated by the back story - the cultural history behind the well known images along with scientific rules and the mechanics of how things work. He explores these ideas within a graphic sensibility and plays with scale, depth, text, current and old media, languages, currencies and slang to create multi-layers of meaning - the opportunity for each viewer to find and connect with something different. Sam enjoys the immediacy of acrylic paints, the effects of pastels, bold and complementary colours and the fun of seeing where a drawn line will take him. He used lots of Resene testpots, and favourites are retro greens, blues and bright reds.
