Toadstool table

It’s a lot of fun (and easy) to turn a terracotta plant pot and saucer into your very own toadstool table.

How to make a toadstool table
As seen in kiwigardener

You will need

Materials:

  • A clean tall-shaped terracotta pot (ours was sold as a ‘25cm Terracotta Long Tom’)
  • A clean flat terracotta plant saucer (ours was sold as a ‘36cm Terracotta Saucer’)
  • Exterior construction glue

Tools:

  • Paintbrushes

Resene products:

Before you begin:  Brush a dab of water onto the terracotta saucer and see if it immediately soaks into the surface. If it does, you will need to seal the saucer as well as the pot in Step One.

Instructions

How to build a toadstool table:

Toadstool table - Step 1 Step one
Carefully remove the price labels from the terracotta pot and the terracotta saucer.

Toadstool table - Step 2 Step two
Apply one coat of Resene Terracotta Sealer to the inside and outside of the terracotta pot and allow the sealer to dry – you might need an adult to help with this bit.

Toadstool table - Step 3 Step three
Paint the top and sides of the terracotta saucer with one coat of Resene Poppy and allow this to dry. Then apply a second coat of Resene Poppy and allow this to dry as well.

Toadstool table - Step 4 Step four
Paint the sides of the terracotta pot with one coat of Resene Alabaster and allow this to dry. Then apply a second coat of Resene Alabaster and allow this to dry as well.

Toadstool table - Step 5 Step five
Paint large spots on the terracotta saucer, as shown, using Resene Alabaster and allow the paint to dry. Apply a second coat of Resene Alabaster to the spots and allow this to dry as well.

Toadstool table - Step 6 Step six
Get an adult to apply some exterior construction glue to the base of the upturned terracotta pot, as shown, and then carefully place the painted terracotta saucer on top, making sure it’s in the centre. Let the glue dry (until the next day at least) before using your new toadstool table.
