Crate mates

• Wooden crates. Ours are double wine boxes from Box-A-Long in Auckland.
• Testpots of your choice of colours. We used Resene Mother Earth, Resene Howzat and Resene Zeal. One testpot will cover one square metre.
• A paint brush
• Liquid nails (if grouping the shelves)
• Picture hooks or screws

Step 1
Paint the crates the various colours. If you want a stained effect, use Resene Colorwood instead.

Step 2
Decide on your hanging arrangement. If you are using the shelves in a cluster, fix together with liquid nails. Attach hanging bars to the back, and hooks to the wall.

Different ways to hang the shelves
There are many ways you can hang your three shelves, just play around for the best effect.

• You can also simply sit them on a table or benchtop to store recipes books or potted herbs.
• In a row either vertically or horizontally either butted up or spaced apart
• Stepped horizontally or vertically
• In an asymmetric cluster
