Keep tiny bits and bobs organised with these adorable little bowls.

Make trinket bowls to store your treats

What you'll need

  • Cotton rope (uncoated, at least 7mm thick)
  • Hot glue and glue gun
  • Small bowls in the shape and size you want to create
  • Resene testpot brush

How to make the trinket bowls

Before you start:  This is an easy project, but there are a few handy tips that will help make your finished product a success.

  1. Start by making the first bend at the end of the rope and gluing together. Centre this end in the base of your chosen bowl.

  2. Begin to curl your rope around itself, gluing as you go. Glue small lengths of rope at a time, as you don’t want the glue to dry before you press the rope down firmly (A). Take your time as you continue to follow the flow and curve of the bowl (B).

  3. Once you have reached the top of the bowl, trim the end, leaving enough clean rope to make a loop back onto itself. Tuck this piece around and under and glue on the top bowl edge. The end of the rope is now hidden underneath and creates a little handle (C).

  4. Once you’re sure that the bowl is completely sealed, you can start to paint the inside (D), leaving a line or two of rope at the top edge unpainted. We used Resene shades of blue and green (see our list above for inspiration). Two coats is best, making sure you leave enough time to dry between each coat. The paint also helps to firm up your bowl, making it even more sturdy. 5 Once dry, fill with trinkets, jewellery or craft bits and bobs.
