How to make a plant stand from a chair

Step 1Step one
Remove the old seat of the chair by knocking out with a hammer – take care not to damage the chair frame.
Step 2Step two
Strengthen the chair frame, if necessary, with galvanised nails. Any existing nails or screws that may rust should be removed and replaced with galvanised or stainless steel.
Step 3Step three
Measure and mark the piece of plywood to fit within the frame of the seat, as shown.
Step 4Step four
Cut the plywood to size and smooth any rough edges with sandpaper.
Step 5Step five
Fix the plywood into position with PVA glue and galvanised nails and drill several drainage holes, as shown.
Step 6Step six
Sand the chair frame back to bare wood and wipe off any sanding residue with a damp cloth.
Step 7Step seven
Apply one coat of Resene Quick Dry and allow two hours to dry.
Step 8Step eight
Apply two coats of Resene Nirvana, allowing two hours for each coat to dry.
