hair’s the plan

Tauranga

Located in the newly opened Tauranga Crossing Shopping Mall ‘Barber Workshop’ is the first store completed for this new Barber brand.

Barber sign

The main task was to fit four barber stations and one shampoo station into the small footprint of the 45 square metre site while maintaining a comfortable and relaxing sense of space for customers.

The client brief was to create a stylish and welcoming place for the modern gentlemen that reflects the art of traditional barbering services. Inspired by the ‘Workshop’ the store embraces classic craftsmanship with industrial elements.

From the barber stations to the grand mesh slider entry door, all elements were uniquely designed and detailed for this fit-out.

The main part of the branding is the traditional gold-leaf sign writing on the storefront. This needed a contrast colour that would complement the gold/brass accents that can be found throughout the store. Resene Indian Ink, a blackened blue, was the perfect backdrop. Resene SpaceCote Low Sheen in Resene Indian Ink was used on the grooved wall panelling as well as the back wall as background for the Barber Workshop logo. Layered with the texture of the Bricklane Tile and solid reclaimed timber it creates a classic and cosy setting. The ceiling and entry are in Resene Ironsand.

The brick tile that was specified didn’t make it in time as it was shipped from Europe. The substituted tile was quite a bit darker which made it challenging to get the task lighting right. This is an extra challenge to be aware of when using dark colours.
