The design was approached with a French provincial feel, to be both inviting and homely.
The owners were drawn to the location and outlook of this compact 60 square metre apartment having both grown up in Watsons’s Bay and having a love for both boats and water.
Interior designer, Sophie Brecht was given the rare luxury of complete control over the layout and look and feel of the apartment. While the clients were travelling overseas they left all decision making in Sophie’s hands, with sparse instructions to create a light, bright and airy apartment, with as much storage as the small space would allow.
The rundown apartment was demolished back to a concrete box before works commenced. The design was approached with a French provincial feel, to be both inviting and homely. Attention to detail was taken with each joinery piece to ensure a customised and storage friendly environment was created.
Lightly coloured detailed cupboard fronts with decorative handles work beautifully with marble bench tops. Off-white walls in Resene Half Rice Cake tie in with sandy coloured carpet and oversized tiles in the kitchen and bathroom areas. Beautiful feature pendants and dimmable LED downlights help set the mood for the lightly coloured, inviting spaces within the apartment.
One Resene colour was used as the base colour throughout the apartment, in three different shades – the Resene Half Rice Cake walls are complemented with Resene Quarter Rice Cake on cupboard fronts and Resene Eighth Rice Cake on ceilings, doors and skirtings. The slightly lighter, brighter Resene Quarter Rice Cake allowed the detail of the cupboards and joinery to pop out from the walls in a subtle, yet effective way.
The contrast of colours results in a very neutral yet beautiful and warm colour scheme.
