This concept project was completed as part of a Diploma of Interior Design at Sydney Design School.
The brief was to evolve the current look and feel so as to better appeal to the changing needs of the local community. With a large catchment of working professionals and a growing base of local residents, it was important to appeal to both target groups, while also being sensitive to the history of this family-run café.
The goal was to create a warm, inviting and nurturing space. Anna took inspiration from the concept of ‘CORE’ as this café had been positioned in the heart of the community for over 30 years. This concept led all elements of the design, from the use of organic, flowing shapes to the soft, natural colour scheme and enabled the creation of a beautiful relaxed and nurturing space.
Anna chose a gentle, warm palette with peach-terracotta tones to create a sense of calm and rejuvenation for the cafe. This palette was established from the street front with a soft, peach exterior façade and awning featuring Resene Soulful and continued through into the interior space. The interiors took on a warm neutral beige tone with Resene Eighth Biscotti on the main walls. This soft neutral scheme was accented with the tinted terracotta tone of Resene Just Dance and the blue-green hue of Resene Half Smalt Blue to warm the space and provide a calm and nurturing vibe.
Light, natural ash wood furniture, soft brass finishes and terrazzo countertops and floors provide delicate layers of interest to complement this natural, organic colour scheme.
