Small Commercial Project

NSW

The brief was to design a pop up cafe with a dual purpose for Sydney festival located inside Carriageworks.

Visitors are encouraged to interact with the project. The space has to be functional by combining eating/drinking with other activities, with materials and finishes used in an innovative way.

Lure Cafe - exterior rendering

Inspired by artist Kengo Kuma with his use of natural light and materials VS Interior Design explored human interaction and the feelings evoked, leading to the concept word Utopia: 'An imagined place or state of things in which everything is perfect and everyone is happy'.

Lure Cafe - interior rendering

French patisserie by day and bar by night, The Lure cafe offers the finest quality pastries and desserts to dine in or take away. The drink menu ranges from coffee, tea to exotic cocktails. 'The Lure Cafe' originates from the meaning of the word Lure 'to attract or entice'. Additionally, the ground floor specialises in macaroon workshops perfecting skills in making desserts.

The flower exhibition is accentuated through significantly large preserved flower installations styled. These installations are made to create a feeling of utopia, an idea or concept where everything is perfect, just like a flower flourishing as you escape the enclosed cave like cafe into an open bloomed flower as you enter the level 2 exotic bar space.

The use of tones of pink as a sweet feminine colour in Resene Provincial Pink and peachy colour Resene Sakura creates joy and euphoria while Resene Scorched Clay allows for grounding and warmth.

The use of natural resources and materials have been used with bamboo at the bar and rattan for the exterior walls which are perforated allowing for natural light to reflect and form aesthetic entertainment like shadows. Aluminium Nescafé coffee capsules are reclaimed to form new aluminium stools while tabletops are made of resin mixed with epoxy and recycled marble stone in a fragment series to form unique designs.
