The owner had removed wood panelling from the dado right around the lounge which was not original and had done quite a bit of damage to lathe and plaster walls which required 40kgs of bedding compound plaster and 20kgs of finishing compound to prepare the walls for wallpapering.

The heavy gauge metal ceiling in the lounge was in poor condition with electrical cables running across it and heavy smoke staining. One panel was removed and all cables hidden. The owners decided to recreate the original. 58 colours in Resene SpaceCote Flat now decorate the ceiling in the lounge due to all the raised detail to be picked out.

The main colour palette used was Resene Essential Cream, Resene Coriander, Resene Moroccan Spice, Resene Putty, Resene Fleetwood, Resene Envy, Resene Scoria and Resene Cashmere. Many colours were mixed on site using combinations of Resene colours to get an exact match to the existing colour.

All windows were stripped back to bare wood as they had been painted over varnish in the past and were badly crocodiled. Resene Lusta-Glo semi-gloss solventborne in Resene Solitaire was applied.

The ceiling in the dining room was painted to match existing with the centre rose and cornice picked out in different colours.

The original fireplace was in poor condition and slightly burnt so it was stripped and given three coats of polyurethane with a touch of tinter added to gently colour up any damage. Imported wallpaper completes the look.

The ceiling in the lounge is a real show stopper and won the NZ Master Painters Residential Wallcoverings category and Residential speciality finishes category.
