The Red Collection with MiNDFOOD

Regional and special colour palettes

Resene was delighted to be involved in The Red Collection with MiNDFOOD. Some of our favourite reds were used in the shoot – Resene Pohutukawa, Resene Jalapeno and Resene Red Hot. Read more in the story below and check out some of our other favourite reds!

I see red

As the legendary editor of Harper's Bazaar, Diana Vreeland, said: "Red is the great clarifier – bright, cleansing, revealing. It makes all colours beautiful. I can't imagine being bored with it – it would be like becoming tired of the person you love."

Behind the scenes in the studio of the Red Collection

Photographer Andrew Coffey lines up part of the shot for the group of nutritionists in what we called "The Last Supper". Nothing is quite as it seems, as we Photoshopped the entire group together as they sat and stood in front of the Resene Red Hot backdrop.

In creating sets for The Red Collection it was important that we found a company who had a paint selection that not only delivered on a range of colour but also on advice. Resene guided MiNDFOOD through which red colours would be the best to reflect light and also to deflect light depending on the portrait we were taking. In the end we narrowed our choice down to three shades – Resene Pohutukawa, Resene Jalapeno and Resene Red Hot.

This gave us enough range and depth, depending on who we were photographing within the studio, and allowed us to change each set during the days we shot.

Be brave: choose one wall in your house and paint it red.

Colours (left to right): Resene Pohutukawa, Resene Red Hot and Resene Jalapeno

Resene Pohutukawa is a spicy, rich red inspired by the New Zealand Christmas tree. Try Resene Pohutukawa with mid blues, black tar stains or pesto limes, such as Resene Awash, Resene Pitch Black or Resene Flourish.  Resene Red Hot is a scarlet of primary purity, full of wild enthusiasm. Try Resene Red Hot with green aqua mists, light cerulean blues or lemon sherberts, such as Resene Breeze, Resene Seeker or Resene First Light. Resene Jalapeno is a spicy salsa red, torrid and tasty. Try Resene Jalapeno with shadowy charcoals, soft zinc greys or fire oranges, such as Resene Foundry, Resene Half Regent Grey or Resene Flashback.
