Repainting kitchens and living rooms – including open plan

Paint systems for earthquake affected buildings

  1. Using a soft cloth, wipe the walls down using Resene Interior Paintwork Cleaner or mild detergent and warm water
    1. Use Sugar Soap to remove any grease and oils from around the cooking area
  2. Fill all dents, defects and holes using Selleys Rapid Filla and lightly sand
  3. Use No More Gaps on any cracks between the walls and skirtings and/or scotias
  4. Sand old enamel paints with 220 grit sandpaper (often used in older kitchens)
  5. Spot prime using Resene Quick Dry (D45)
  6. Apply Resene Sureseal (D42) to any water stains or ink marks
  7. Paint options:
    1. We recommend 2 coats of Resene SpaceCote Low Sheen standard (D311) or Resene SpaceCote Low Sheen Kitchen & Bathroom (D311K) *These products are also excellent for bathrooms and laundries.
    2. Alternatively, apply 2 coats of Resene Zylone Sheen or Resene Zylone Sheen Zero (no added VOCs) (D302) or Resene Decorator Low Sheen (T5)

Note: An average open plan kitchen and living room will use 4-6 litres of paint. For more information on products, view the Product Data Sheet referred to in ( ) after the product name. Decorator products are recommended for trade use only.
