Create with paint! Projects from habitat by Resene
There’s something calming about creating these clay pots, first smoothing out the clay and then creating a lace pattern with such ease.
The best part? They make the prettiest planters, perfect to use indoor or out.
You will need:
Top tip: For a taller clay pot, use a larger circle and a smaller plate. This will enable the sides to be raised higher. Taller pots also look good with an ombre effect. You can create an easy ombre effect using your favourite darker Resene colour and a Resene white testpot. First paint the dark colour as is, then gradually add more white as you paint more, so that you end up with a graduation of colour from dark to light.
Step one: Take a small fistful of clay and flatten/smooth it out onto the wax paper, using the rolling pin.
Step two: Place the lace on top and roll the pattern onto the clay. Remove the lace.
Step three: Place the plate on top of the clay and use it to cut out a circle shape.
Step four: Mould the clay around the cup, which will create organic waves as you do this.
Step five: Bake as per instructions.
Step six: Once set, paint the pots in Resene Half Pale Rose. Leave to dry.
Step seven: Dry brush with Resene Gold metallic paint to bring out the texture of the lace.
Step eight: Fill with plants and enjoy your new pots.
