Kitchen definition

Emily's house is a typical 1960s brick house with a long kitchen and dining area leading to a laundry at the back.

The first job was to remove the old unused fireplace which was boxed in with silver/black wallpaper. Emma's builder husband then removed the wall at the back of the kitchen, which led to a hallway and door to the outside. This made the kitchen area much bigger, brighter and usable. After installing a kitchen designed with Emma's joiner brother, they chose to paint the dining area Resene Black White.

Resene Black White is also used throughout the house as it is versatile and tones in well with the restored Rimu floors. The doors and trims are painted in Resene Alabaster, a crisp white that contrasts with the Resene Black White.

The kitchen/dining area is a long narrow room, and it felt important to define the kitchen space. Resene Bunting is a lovely rich blue that contrasts well with the neutral Resene colours they had already chosen while defining the kitchen just as desired.

Thanks to Emily.
