Paint creates a 'home'

Almost 100 Resene paint testpots were used in the quest for the combinations of colours they were looking for.

Immediately entering their new home you can see that all the floors have been hand painted - art underfoot.

The hall has darkly coloured Resene Midnight Moss walls, which frame each of the rooms leading off it with Scandinavian inspired black and white stripes on the floor, an Art Deco geometric Resene Blue Bark pattern in the sitting room with its 1940s French club leather chairs. The kitchen has Resene Blue Bark cabinets with Resene Gold accents, the countertops have been treated with polished concrete with Resene Concrete Wax while the wall is handpainted herringbone tiling.

The entire area emits a burnished glow, while the dining part has the bold black and white Scandinavian inspired rug, the dining table and Has Wegner chairs to add a mid-century touch. There's no denying the impact the handpainted tile floor has in the main bedroom, using Resene Wax Flower, Resene Avant Garde, Resene Lynch, Resene Dynamite and Resene Blue Bark on the floor with dark Resene Blue Bark gloss ceiling contrasting with white walls. Outside Resene Atoll and Resene Breaker Bay turn the courtyard into a light filled entertaining space.

The children's rooms are painted in Resene Swans Down and Resene Pattens Blue with a modern herringbone pattern on the floor of one and a lace pattern on the other.

This family finally feels at home, which is a hard thing to achieve when renting. They feel they have added some history and soul, by creating depth and textural interest throughout.
