A place to get your hands dirty, this gorgeous green shed is the perfect place for someone with a penchant for all things green and growing; it’s a space to hang your hat – and your gardening tools.

An ideal colour scheme for someone who loves everything that Mother Nature has to offer, this relaxing hobby space built out of a tonal palette of Resene greens features walls and floors in Rivergum, a table in Resene Palm Green, and a stool in Resene Bud. If you’re worried about dirt, try painting the furniture with Resene Lustacryl for a semi-gloss finish or Resene Enamacryl for a gloss finish that’s extra durable and easy to clean.

The crates are painted in Resene Rice Cake and the doors have been kept bright in Resene Black White as a point of difference, making them stand out from the rest of the scheme.

To ensure there is a designated place for each shovel, spade and pitch fork, install a large pegboard and paint an outline around each tool. That way, you’ll instantly know if something is missing when you pack up for the day. We painted our pegboard first in Resene Nourish and then outlined our garden tools in Resene Rivergum.

If you’re not into green, the same space would work with other soft hues like soothing pinks or blissful blues such as Resene Ethereal and Resene Unwind. And if you don’t have a green thumb, a restful colour scheme like this one could easily work just as well in a different type of hobby retreat, such as a reading room. A tranquil place to read in peace is just about the best thing a bookworm can imagine, especially if it includes plenty of built-in shelving.

A cubby-style shelving system makes it easier to categorise books by topic and keeps the contents from toppling over each time you go to grab a book from the shelf. Each topic could get a cubby in a different colour. Or, just paint the edges of certain cubbies in a single contrasting colour so that you always know where you can find your favourites.
