Colour your summer

Project ideas and inspiration from Good magazine

Two colourful summer projects – a pink picture frame or a summery mural.

A pink and feminine picture frame

The wall is painted in Resene Coral Tree. For the picture frame we used Resene Pompadour. We used Resene Paper Doll for the shelf

Feminine frames:

If you’ve been meaning to frame a beautiful print or photograph, why not do it with something that pops? This project is quick and inexpensive, and will make a striking addition to your home.

You will need:

Step-by-step instructions:

Step one: Sand your frame down, getting rid of any varnish and leaving it with a smooth finish. Wipe down with a damp cloth.

Step two: As a base, paint the frame in Resene Acrylic Undercoat. Leave to dry.

Step three: Paint the frame in Resene Pompadour and the frame inner with Resene Pink Terrace. Leave to dry.

Step four: Using the ruler, measure your print or photograph and cut to size.

Step five: Frame up and enjoy your colourful piece of artwork.

Project & paint

Mural perfection:

Now this is a statement for any space! If you have an uninspired wall that needs a dramatic transformation, get creative with this easy-to-do mural project.

A summery mural - summer project

The greenery colours include Resene Rivergum, Resene Paddock, Resene Organic, Resene Hideaway and Resene Elixir. We used Resene Melodic and Resene Mozart for the purple flowers. We used Resene Gelato and Resene Vanilla Ice for the pink flowers.

You will need:

Step-by-step instructions:

Step one: Clean your wall before applying your paint. If the wall is plasterboard, use a sealer coat before painting. For our wall colour we used Resene Alabaster.

Step two: Determine your desired size of your mural using the zoom function on your projector against your wall.

Step three: Using your sketching pencil, trace out the linear pattern projected.

Step four: Once your pattern is traced, follow your tracing with a black border, (we used a testpot of Resene All Black).

Step five: Using your Resene testpots, colour in the sections of the mural pattern, double coating to achieve maximum impact.
