Display case

Transform an old corner unit into a chic display case with a little bit of help from Resene.

Fun with furniture with Mark Rayner - Project 31

Difficulty level: Moderate

You will need: a clean cloth, hammer, old wooden corner unit, paintbrush, Resene Mineral Turpentine, Resene Paint Pot, pliers and sandpaper. Resene Enamel Undercoat, Resene Super Gloss enamel tinted to Resene Double Alabaster.

To get the look: Mark painted the background wall with Resene SpaceCote Flat tinted to Resene Quarter Cararra.

Other ideas: for a rich glossy black finish use Resene Super Gloss tinted to Resene Black.

Remove the back panels of the unit, taking care not to damage the wooden frame.
Step 2

Remove any old nails with pliers.
Step 3

Sand the unit with a medium grade sandpaper, followed by a fine grade sandpaper.
Step 4

Wipe off any sanding residue with a clean cloth.

Step 5

Apply one coat of Resene Enamel Undercoat to all surfaces of the unit. Allow to dry for 12 hours.

Wash brush using Resene Mineral Turpentine.
Step 7
Step seven
Apply one coat of Resene Double Alabaster to all surfaces of the unit and allow paint to dry for 16 hours. Wash brush using Resene Mineral Turpentine.
Step 8
Step eight

Apply a second coat of Resene Double Alabaster to all surfaces of the unit and allow paint to dry for 16 hours. Wash brush using Resene Mineral Turpentine.
