Creative uses for blackboard paint

Paint technology has come along in leaps and bounds in recent years. One of the most exciting developments has been the creation of blackboard paint (also known as chalkboard paint), which enables a surface to be transformed into a functional chalkboard.

Blackboards don't have to be restricted to classroom use only. There are many different ways you can incorporate chalkboards inside and outside of the home.

If you're artistically inclined, you could consider painting a blackboard feature wall. Equip the room with a set of coloured chalk and you can change your decor as often as you change your socks. You can draw your own decorations, artwork and even write lists straight onto the wall.

Blackboard paint can also be applied to much smaller surfaces, such as pot plants. This is particularly handy if you've got a green thumb and grow your own herbs. You can coat the pots in the paint and then label them with chalk to avoid any dinner time mix-ups.

For those who love hosting dinner parties, why not coat a dining table in chalkboard paint? It's a creative way to encourage guests to interact and you'll no doubt be left with some fabulous drawings and art works at the end of your event.

If you work from home, chalkboards may be the perfect way to get your creative juices flowing. You could restrict the paint to a small area, or cover your desk with it so that you've always got something to scribble on when inspiration strikes.

Resene Blackboard Paint is a 100 per cent acrylic coating that is scrubbable and suitable for all interior and exterior smooth surfaces. It's easily applied in the same way that you would use paint, and is available in a range of colours so your blackboard doesn’t have to just be black.
