Gilt picture frame

Transform an old ornate picture frame into a golden masterpiece with a little bit of help from Resene.

Resene art with Mark Rayner - Project 94

Difficulty level: Moderate

You will need: Clean cloth, old ornate frame (ours was wooden), paintbrush, Resene Aquaclear gloss, Resene Quick Dry, Resene testpots of Resene Bullion and Resene Porsche, sandpaper, screwdriver.

To get the look: Mark painted the background wall with Resene SpaceCote Flat tinted to Resene Black White.

Step one
Carefully remove the hanging device from the back of the frame.

Step two
Remove the old picture and backing board.

Step three
Carefully sand the picture frame and wipe off any sanding residue with a clean cloth.

Step four
Apply one coat of Resene Quick Dry to the frame and allow to dry.

Step five
Apply one coat of Resene Porsche to the frame and allow to dry.

Step six
Apply one coat of Resene Bullion to the frame and allow to dry.

Step seven
Apply a second coat of Resene Bullion to the frame and allow to dry.

Step eight
Apply three coats of Resene Aquaclear to the frame, allowing each coat to dry before applying the next. Refit with a new picture and reattach the hanging device.
