Geometric painting

Create this simple geometric painting using masking tape and a few Resene testpots.

Resene art with Mark Rayner - Project 85

Difficulty level: Easy

You will need: Low tack masking tape, Paintbrush, Primed artists’ canvas, Pencil, Resene testpot roller and tray, Resene testpots of Resene Double Alabaster, Resene Double Resolution Blue, Resene Happy and Resene Poppy, Ruler

To get the look: Mark painted the background wall with Resene SpaceCote Flat tinted to Resene Double Alabaster.

Other ideas: For a subtle monochrome effect use Resene Half Grey Chateau, Resene Quarter Atmosphere, and Resene Quarter Baltic Sea on a base of Resene Black White.

Step 1
Step one
Using the Resene testpot roller and tray, apply two even coats of Resene Double Alabaster to the front and sides of the canvas. Allow two hours for each coat to dry.
Step 2
Step two
Measure and mask off four geometric shapes, as shown, using low tack masking tape, continuing the line of tape around each edge of the canvas.
Step 3
Step three
Paint the edges of the masking tape with one coat of Resene Double Alabaster and allow two hours to dry. This will prevent any of the other colours ‘bleeding’ under the tape.
Step 4
Step four
Paint the larger rectangle with Resene Poppy and allow two hours to dry.
Step 5
Step five
Paint the other two rectangles with Resene Double Resolution Blue and allow two hours to dry.
Step 6
Step six
Paint the square with Resene Happy and allow two hours to dry.
Step 7
Step seven
Paint a second coat of all the colours.
Step 8
Step eight
While the second coat is still wet, carefully remove the masking tape. Allow the paint two hours to dry.
