Antique frame

It’s easy to create a traditional looking picture frame using a few Resene testpots and Resene Aquaclear gloss.

Resene art with Mark Rayner - Project 80

Difficulty level: Moderate

You will need: Clean cloth, paintbrushes (including an artists’ brush), picture frame, Resene Aquaclear gloss, Resene testpots of Resene All Black, Resene Bullion and Resene Porsche, Resene Waterborne Smooth Surface Sealer, sandpaper.

To get the look: Mark painted the background wall with Resene SpaceCote Flat tinted to Resene Picton Blue.

Other ideas: Substitute Resene All Black with Resene Pohutukawa for a rich red effect.

Step 1

Carefully remove the glass and backing from the picture frame.
Step 2

Lightly sand the frame to ‘key’ the surface.
Step 3

Wipe off any sanding residue with a clean cloth.
Step 4

Apply one coat of Resene Waterborne Smooth Surface Sealer to the frame and allow to dry.
Step 5

Apply one coat of Resene Porsche to the inner and outer edge of the frame, as shown. Allow to dry.
Step 6
Step six
Apply two coats of Resene Bullion to the inner and outer edge of the frame, allowing two hours for each coat to dry.
Step 7
Step seven
Apply two coats of Resene All Black to the middle section of the frame, as shown. Allow two hours for each coat to dry.
Step 8
Step eight
Apply three coats of Resene Aquaclear gloss to the frame, allowing two hours for each coat to dry.
