Retro frame

Transform a humble plastic picture frame into a stylish retro feature with a little bit of help from Resene.

Resene art with Mark Rayner - Project 74

Difficulty level: Moderate

You will need: Damp sponge, paintbrush, plastic picture frame, Resene Aquaclear gloss, Resene Smooth Surface Sealer, Resene testpots of Resene Allusive and Resene Gull Grey, sandpaper, small wooden stirrer.

To get the look: Mark painted the background wall with Resene SpaceCote Flat tinted to Resene Aqua.

Other ideas: For a rich gold effect paint the frame with one coat of Resene Porsche and two coats of Resene Bullion.

Step one
Remove the glass and backing from the picture frame.

Step two
Lightly sand the plastic frame to ‘key’ the surface.

Step three
Wipe off any sanding residue with a damp sponge.

Step four
Apply one coat of Resene Smooth Surface Sealer to the frame and allow two hours to dry.

Step five
Apply one coat of Resene Gull Grey to the frame and allow two hours to dry.

Step six
Carefully stir the testpot of Resene Allusive.

Step seven
Apply two coats of Resene Allusive to the frame, allowing two hours for each coat to dry.

Step eight
Apply two coats of Resene Aquaclear gloss to the frame, allowing two hours for each coat to dry.
