Glass painting

Let the background wall colour show through with this clever glass painting.

Resene art with Mark Rayner - Project 73

Difficulty level: Moderate

You will need: Clean cloths, paintbrush, PVA glue, Resene Lustacryl tinted to Resene All Black, Resene Quick Dry, Resene testpots of Resene Eternity, Resene Spring Rain and Resene Tom Thumb, sandpaper, wooden picture frame with glass.

To get the look: Mark painted the background wall with Resene SpaceCote Flat tinted to Resene Laurel.

Other ideas: Create a bold primary pattern using Resene Chaos, Resene Fizz and Resene Resolution Blue and paint the frame and background wall with Resene Alabaster.

Step 1
Step one
Remove the glass from the picture frame. Lightly sand the wooden frame and wipe off any sanding residue with a clean cloth.
Step 2

Apply one coat of Resene Quick Dry to the wooden frame and allow to dry for two hours.
Step 3
Step three
Apply two coats of Resene All Black to the frame, allowing two hours for each coat to dry.
Step 4
Step four
Carefully clean the piece of glass.
Step 5
Step five
Place the piece of glass back into the picture frame and fix into position with PVA glue. Allow glue to dry.
Step 6
Step six
Place the picture frame face down and dribble a little Resene Spring Rain across the back of the glass.
Step 7
Step seven
In the same way, dribble a little Resene Tom Thumb across the back of the glass.
Step 8
Step eight
In the same way, dribble a little Resene Eternity across the back of the glass. Allow paint to dry before hanging the picture.
