Christmas crackle candle holder

Transform a simple terracotta pot and saucer into a festive candle holder just in time for Christmas.

Resene art with Mark Rayner - Project 52

Difficulty level: Easy

You will need: Candle, paintbrush, PVA glue, red glass tumbler, Resene Aquaclear gloss, Resene Crackle Effect, Resene Terracotta Sealer, Resene testpots of Resene Nero and Resene Roadster, small terracotta pot and saucer.

To get the look: Mark painted the background wall with Resene SpaceCote Flat tinted to Resene Pale Prim.

Other ideas: Get a theatrical crackle look by painting the candle holder with Resene Bullion over a basecoat of Resene Pohutukawa.

Turn the terracotta pot upside down and put a blob of PVA glue around the base, as shown.

Press the terracotta saucer onto the pot and allow the glue to dry.
Step 3

Apply one coat of Resene Terracotta Sealer to the candle holder and allow to dry.
Step 4

Apply one coat of Resene Nero to the candle holder and allow two hours to dry.
Step 5

Apply one coat of Resene Crackle Effect to the candle holder and allow to dry.
Step 6

Apply one coat of Resene Roadster to the candle holder and allow two hours to dry.
Step 7

Apply two coats of Resene Aquaclear to the candle holder, allowing two hours for each coat to dry.
Step 8
Step eight
Fix the glass tumbler to the top of the candle holder with a generous blob of PVA glue.

Always ensure lit candles are under adult supervision. Always extinguish all candles before going to sleep. Replace candles when they are at least 20mm from the top edge of the candleholder.
