Crackle statue

Use Resene Crackle Effect with contrasting Resene colours to create this stylish modern statue.

Resene art with Mark Rayner - Project 21

Difficulty level: Easy

You will need: Ceramic statue (these are often sold as garden statues in discount shops), paintbrushes, Resene Crackle Effect, Resene Lumbersider tinted to the following colours: Resene China Ivory, Resene Fahrenheit and Resene Nero, Resene Waterborne Smooth Surface Sealer, sandpaper.

To get the look: Mark painted the background wall with Resene Zylone Sheen tinted to Resene Cinnamon.

Other ideas: For an aged antique look try Resene Crackle Effect over a basecoat of Resene Jaguar with a topcoat of Resene Gold Dust.

Step 1
Step one
Lightly sand the entire surface of the ceramic statue to provide a ‘key’.
Step 2
Step two
Apply one coat of Resene Waterborne Smooth Surface Sealer to the statue and base and allow to dry for two hours.
Step 3
Step three
Apply one coat of Resene China Ivory to the statue.
Step 4
Step four
Once dry, apply a second coat of Resene China Ivory to the statue and allow to dry for two hours.
Step 5
Step five
Paint the base of the statue with two coats of Resene Nero, allowing two hours for each coat to dry.
Step 6
Step six
Paint the statue with one coat of Resene Crackle Effect. Note: the thicker you apply the crackle effect, the larger the cracks will be.
Step 7
Step seven
Paint the base with one coat of Resene Crackle Effect. Allow statue and base to dry.
Step 8
Step eight
Paint the statue and base with one coat of Resene Fahrenheit, allowing two hours to dry.
