Pallet and paling playhouse

Mark Rayner creates a fun childrens' playhouse using discarded wood.

You will need:

20mm and 50mm flathead galvanised nails
75mm galvanised nails
4 x wooden pallets
Plywood pallet
10 x 1.2m fence palings
Hammer, paintbrush, a Resene paint stirrer, coarse sandpaper, saw, scissors and two tea towels
Resene Waterborne Woodsman tinted to Resene Totem Pole

Step 1 how create a fun child's playhouse

Step 1
Place the plywood pallet in position, as shown. If positioning on bare soil or lawn, ensure the pallet is stable and level.

Step 2 how create a fun child's playhouse

Step 2
Fix two pallets in position to form two adjacent walls, as shown, using 50mm and 75mm nails.

Step 3 how create a fun child's playhouse

Partly deconstruct a pallet to form a wall with two windows and fix this into position using 50mm and 75mm nails.

Step 4 how create a fun child's playhouse

Step 4
Cut a pallet in half, as shown.

Step 5
Fix this half pallet in position, as shown, fixing with 50mm and 75mm nails.

Step 6
Fix two fence palings along the top edges of the ‘window’ wall and ‘door’ wall using 50mm nails. (Cut palings to fit, if necessary.)

Step 7
Fix the eight remaining fence palings in position using 50mm nails to form the roof.

Step 8
Sand any rough edges with coarse sandpaper.

Step 9
Carefully stir the Resene Waterborne Woodsman before applying two coats to the playhouse, allowing two hours for each coat to dry.

Step 10
Fix the two tea towels in position, as shown, using 20mm flat head nails. Cut up the centre of each with scissors and tie back to form curtains.
