Glitter mirror

Transform a plastic framed mirror into a glittery masterpiece with a little bit of help from Resene.

Resene Toys and Games with Mark Rayner - Project 21

Difficulty level: Moderate

You will need: Clean cloth, Craft knife, Dark pink glitter, Framed mirror, Masking tape, Paintbrushes, Resene Aquaclear gloss, Resene testpots of Resene Strikemaster and Resene Sugar And Spice, Resene Waterborne Smooth Surface Sealer, Sandpaper

To get the look: Mark painted the background wall with Resene SpaceCote Flat tinted to Resene Ballerina.

Other ideas: Create a rich golden mirror using a basecoat of Resene Porsche, two topcoats of Resene Bullion and a generous application of gold glitter.

Step 1

Mask off the mirror from the frame, as shown, trimming the masking tape closely to the edge of the frame using a craft knife.
Step 2

Carefully sand the frame to ‘key’ the surface and wipe off any sanding residue with a clean cloth.
Step 3

Apply one coat of Resene Waterborne Smooth Surface Sealer to the frame and allow two hours to dry.
Step 4

Apply one coat of Resene Strikemaster to the frame and allow two hours to dry.
Step 5
Step five
Apply two coats of Resene Sugar And Spice to the frame, allowing two hours for each coat to dry.
Step 6
Step six
Apply one coat of Resene Aquaclear gloss to the frame.
Step 7
Step seven
Immediately sprinkle glitter on the wet Resene Aquaclear and allow two hours to dry. Repeat steps six and seven until the frame is well coated with stable glitter. Apply a final coat of Resene Aquaclear and allow two hours to dry.
Step 8
Step eight
Carefully remove the masking tape from the mirror.
