Softly stripedSix year old Emily's upstairs bedroom was an unusual configuration, having a high pitched, sloping ceiling with many angles. So the Milner family had to be creative in their desire to give the room a more ‘normal’ roofline, while still maintaining a lovely ‘little girl’s room’ look. To achieve this they painted the walls, skirtings and window frames in Resene Soapstone, then ran a picture rail around the room at just above door height, masked 20cm sections from the picture rail to the skirting (a very slow process!) and painted in Resene Pale Rose stripes. The chimney flue which runs through Emily's room is also painted in larger stripes of Resene Soapstone and Resene Ce Soir. It gives the flue a candy cane style effect, hiding what would normally be an eyesore. To complete the look her furniture has been painted in Resene Soapstone, and doorframes and doors are done in Resene Tea to match all the other doors and skirtings throughout the house. Other finishing touches such as her mirror, picture frames and switch plates have also been painted in the same colour scheme as the room to link everything together. A very pretty room well loved by Emily.
