More dash than cash
Lifestyle changes necessitated a move to the inner city and Nadine was lucky enough to find an entire top level in a heritage building circa 1900. It had excellent bones and vibes, exposed brick walls, high stud, open fire, and sash windows intact and still working. The original refit in 1992 was though, to be kind, tired!

Like most people in the real world there was a tight budget and innovation was called for. The bathroom had a strictly limited life with the shower mixer virtually blowing out two days before the plumbers commenced work. Tight size wise with only a small square window, all bathroom fittings were replaced with white and chrome, keeping true to a theme of simple uncluttered lines. To save the room from appearing too stark Resene Havelock Blue was applied to the back wall injecting both depth and warmth.

Lino had been in the original plan however funds became dangerously low so the existing cork tile floor was patched, filled and sanded to within an inch of its life. After consulting Resene the floor was undercoated with Resene Quick Dry Acrylic Primer Undercoat and then painted with a tile effect with black and white Resene Lustacryl semi-gloss waterborne enamel. These tiles were set on point giving the room an optical illusion of width.

After waiting 7 days for the paint to cure and harden the entire bathroom and adjoining laundry and kitchen floors were sealed with a two pot Resene Uracryl clear semi-gloss sealer.

While labour intensive the new look bathroom was minimal in terms of cost, complements the older building perfectly and was the absolute icing on the cake to complete the renovation.
