Mini lipstickLiving in a rented home is no barrier to redecorating as Jane has recently proved by revamping her daughter Megan's bedroom. Once a previously large bedroom but now split in two, the very small bedroom had a somewhat unattractive door housing a wardrobe sitting in the middle of the room. Working around her favourite duvet cover, Megan's favourite colours of pink and purple became the starting point, translating into hues of Resene Lipstick and Resene Paua as key colours. The colours were quite deep for such a small room, so have been broken up by the neutral Resene Pavlova that has been used throughout the rest of the home. To be able to use all of the colours without overwhelming the space, Resene Lipstick was teamed with the neutral Resene Pavlova then broken up with brush spatters of Resene Paua, Resene Pavlova, Resene Tangerine, Resene Lipstick and Resene Blanc.
The wardrobe and shelving is painted the same as the walls to help it blend in and make the room seem more spacious. An old dresser with stool that was given by a friend has been stripped back then painted in Resene Lipstick and Resene Paua with white detailing, while the stool top is finished with pink fun fur. A chair found in the recycling centre was also adorned in the same fur, while Megan's bed has been painted to tone in with the dresser. A flannelette sheet of similar colourings has been made into an Austrian blind and scraps of the fur and fabric left are used as cushions to finish the room off. An extensive makeover on a very reasonable budget, with the complete transformation costing around $300, comprised of paint $150, fur $30, chair $10, shelves $40, cushions $20 and rug/throw $50. Needless to say, with Megan's delight at her new room, the money was well spent.
