Online buyThe Mitchell's purchased their new home while they were still in the UK after seeing it on the internet. It was dated internally so soon after their return they started the long process of renovations, which are still ongoing. Expecting their first child in June and needing another bedroom, they decided to convert one of three interconnected living areas into a master bedroom. The room was lined with wood panelling and had a door through to the kitchen and double doors through to the dining area. Transforming it into a bedroom required them to remove the panelling and reline and insulate the walls and ceilings, close off the door to the kitchen and move the double doors to provide access between the kitchen and dining area. Due to a shortage of wall space along which to build a wardrobe while still allowing the bed to fit, a new feature wall was erected instead with walk in wardrobe space behind it. A remnant of fabric bought at a Designers Guild factory sale in London was the inspiration for the colour scheme of Resene Sandcastle as the primary wall colour complemented by Resene Cab Sav for the feature wall. The fabric was made into a throw for the bed and a large cushion, both complemented by a tile received as a wedding present displayed in the shadow box built into the feature wall.
The room has a natural harmony with the fabric, paint and tile all sharing the same colourway. Inspiration gallery 2004
