Triple room decorate

After renovating two previous houses, Andrea and Tony had become used to using colour to enhance their surroundings.

Their latest home was a little different to its two predecessors as it was a 1970s Modulock wood panel finish, causing a little uncertainly as to what the wood panelling would look like when finished. Luckily, they had nothing to fear as the finished look is fantastic and just what they were looking for.

Originally the plan was just to paint the children's bedrooms as the wood panelling made these rooms appear dark and small, but once the first room was complete they loved the look so much that they just kept painting other rooms!

The biggest challenge was selecting the grey colour to be used on the window frames, pelmets and doors - they finally settled on Resene Scorpion thanks to some help from the Newmarket Resene ColorShop staff who helped them step away from the safe colour of the Resene Quarter Parchment used elsewhere. The bolder more dramatic grey certainly has more impact than the lighter Resene Quarter Parchment and works so well with the other colours used.

The two children's rooms were painted with the intention of being gender neutral. Lucas' room features a sealer of Resene Smooth Surface Sealer topped in Resene Orange Roughy on the bottom half of the wall and Resene Parchment on the top half, complemented by Resene Quarter Parchment on the ceiling. Trims and joinery are finished in Resene Scorpion for a dramatic contrast. A masculine touch was added by painting the furniture with Resene Azure. To complete the look, wall paintings and artwork were created using a variety of Resene testpots.

The green room, similar to Lucas' room, but with the Resene Orange Roughy replaced by Resene Wasabi, is just awaiting the arrival of their second child, at which time the finishing touches can be added.

With the two children's bedrooms complete it was time to treat themselves to a new paint finish in the master bedroom, with the aim of creating a romantic environment - the perfect escape from the children. The combination of Resene Parchment on three walls accented by a Resene Bossanova feature wall and offset by a Resene Quarter Parchment ceiling creates just the right atmosphere for this much-needed escape.
