Background to mural creation:
The Morrinsville Primary School art clubbers, extension art students, used the mural to develop their artistic skills while creating a new feature for the school. The mural was completely designed, drawn and painted by a group of 14 year 5 and 6 extension art students who have been working together from the start of the year developing and extending their drawing and painting skills. The students came up with the theme of the mural, kids playing sports, because sport is a major focus area in the school.

The art club members posed in various sport positions and had digital photos taken of themselves. These photos were then printed out and drawn by other members in the club. After attempts of drawing a range of photos, each student chose the drawing they were most proud of. This was photocopied several times and the students painted the photocopied versions, taking care to add shadow and blending. The original drawings were photocopied onto OHP film and enlarged onto the boards, which were then painted over a few weeks using Resene testpots.
