In honour of the success of the Lord of the Rings,
Resene have included a new Lord of the Rings inspired
colour in the Range 2003. Aptly named Wellywood, this
colour is unique. Distinctive like Peter Jackson and
a celebration of New Zealand's claim to green, Wellywood
is truly one of a kind.

From the
refurbishment of the Embassy theatre to supplying thousands
of litres of variously coloured paint throughout the Lord
of the Rings filming, Resene have been on hand every reel
of the way. Resene staff have assisted with such diverse tasks
as identifying the original Embassy paint colours, developing
electronic renders, writing paint specifications and assisting
with colour selection... not to mention finding ways to satisfy
unusual requests such as how to create mouldy finishes. Mould
is normally a problem Resene tries to fix, not create!
The
Middle Earth home of Lord of the Rings screenings, the Embassy
theatre exterior was repainted two years ago using Resene
X-200 Waterproofing Membrane to protect the heritage building.
With a style of its own, the palette was designed to enhance
the natural heritage features while retaining its traditional
appearance. The main front façade palette was finished
in Resene Sidecar (white yellow) complemented by Resene Scotch
Mist (warm yellow white) and Resene Saltpan (green white).
Windows were treated to Resene Hot Chile (deep red) to add
a spicy punch to the neutral backdrop.
Prior
to the Lord of the Rings premiere in December 2001, the Embassy
underwent a major interior refurbishment that was completed
just in time for the big opening night. Resene's beloved Spanish
White (muddy neutral) was used throughout the interior area,
beautifully offset against lavish furnishings and wayward
orcs.
As
the official paint supplier to Middle Earth, Resene was
clapping as loudly as all other proud New Zealanders when
Lord of the Rings broke Box Office records and gathered
numerous coveted nominations and awards.
